Captain’s Log: Day #2 of my 30-Day Challenge to write a 500-word article every day for the next 30 days.

I first saw that type of narration in the movie “The Last Samurai” but later on, I found out Captain Kirk of Startrek also did the same thing.

Anyway…

Today was a great day for me. My comment on Terkel’s website was just published! As an email copywriter, it’s a great pleasure to share my expertise and get credit for it. It’s validation of what I’ve learned and practice.

Also, the copy I wrote for Week 12 of my Copywriting Course, The Copywriting Fellowship, was just released. I’m proud to say that I was the last person standing from our class.

As someone who’s taken many online courses, completing this 12-week course was a great accomplishment. I’ve always been into personal development and learning new skills, but sometimes I lose steam towards the end of a course and end up being a course hoarder. So, it was great that I was able to complete the course, even though there are still a few more modules on mindset and building a copywriting business from scratch.

The Copywriting Fellowship was an intense course that covered a range of topics, from market research to using frameworks to write copy, mapping and understanding funnels, as well as using AI to be more productive and efficient in writing copy. We also had a daily activity to hand-copy sales letters from the best copywriters in the world.

After going through the course, here are a couple of my takeaways from my learning experience:

  • Getting feedback is crucial. Throughout the 12-week journey, we received weekly feedback from a 7-figure copywriting coach. The feedback helped me become aware of my writing tendencies and improve my writing.
  • Make time for learning. Balancing work and learning can be challenging, but I blocked off my learning schedule and focused on completing my tasks.
  • Trust the process. Even when some tasks seemed difficult or felt like it was unnecessary, I still completed them because that’s what my mentor instructed and what was required to get weekly feedback. In the end, I was able to discern copy and sales letters better and improve my vocabulary and writing style.
  • Invest in yourself. Although you can find almost anything on YouTube, it’s not necessarily the best way to learn. Joining a paid program can provide structure, community, and a coach to help you improve your skills.
  • Build on what you have learned. Simply studying concepts is not enough; you need to put what you’ve learned into practice consistently to get better.

Writing an article every day is my way of building on what I’ve learned and improving my skills. After 12 weeks of studying, writing, and hand-copying, I can honestly say that I’m a better copywriter than when I started.
