A Return To The Writing Desk

So it’s been a while since I’ve written something here. Client work has got me spinning the wheels round and round and I didn’t have the time to post something here. But this time around, I’m making a conscious effort to write daily and post an article here.

Last year, I did a 30-day challenge where I wrote an article every day, and thankfully I was able to complete the challenge. This time around, my goal is just to exercise my writing skills, distill my thoughts, and share whatever I think is worth sharing.

I haven’t decided yet if I would write for a single topic or a variety so for now, I’ll just write whatever interests me at the moment. That could be anything from basketball to drones, Star Wars, or comedy shows, sometimes a bit about marketing, copywriting, emails, and everything in between.

Right now, there’s a lot of interesting stuff happening around the world and in my world. So I think I’d start first with the things that hit closer to home.

I recently got a puppy, she was the last pup of my brother’s dog who died last year. As, she was the only surviving puppy, we were very fond of her. However, as she was growing up, she got sick. My mother didn’t know how to take care of her so even if she didn’t want to give me another dog in the house, she was compelled as she thought she wouldn’t survive.

Luckily, I knew a thing or two about taking care of dogs so I was able to nurse her back to health. Feeding her with medicine and getting her to eat food was tricky at first as she was not yet that comfortable with me.

But as soon as she got well, she was a vacuum cleaner of any food that hit the floor. She would even bite and chew on some of our old shoes! 😂

One thing I had always wanted to do was to train my dogs. But as I was always busy at work and tired from commuting I never had the chance to do that to my other dogs. Also YouTube was not as it is today, so it’s very easy to search for some videos and learn how to teach her the tricks.

I started out by buying some dog food and then teaching her some of the basic tricks like sit and down. So far, she’s been doing very well. But I haven’t had the time to teach her another trick yet.

I also had another dog at home, Teppy, when my new puppy, Belly had arrived. So, of course, I had to teach him too. Because he also needs to know the tricks. When he was the lone dog in the house, he was very clingy to me. He would even howl when I would go out to jog or buy something outside. Nowadays, he’s content playing with Belly, who happens to be his younger sister by the way.

One thing I realized is that, it’s very easy to teach dogs when they’re young. They’re minds are like a blank canvas just waiting to be programmed. If you show them love, they will grow to be sweet, caring and loyal animals. If you show them violence, they can be very vindictive too.

So far they’ve been getting along together and hopefully they’ll learn a few more tricks to entertain and keep me busy. Anyway, that’s it for today’s article. See you again tomorrow.
